The Browns schedule, especially close AFC North opponents, helps keep their travel low

When the NFL finally releases the schedule for a season there are so many ways for it to be broken down. Whether it is looking at primetime games, most annoying opponents, who had their schedule “screwed” by the league or any other analysis, the NFL schedule has a lot of components to it.

One aspect that is generally known before the schedule is released is the amount of travel that teams will have to put in during the season. Some teams, like the AFC North, often have less travel than others, like those on the West Coast. The Cleveland Browns last year chose to stay out west for two straight weeks to limit their travel miles, which were ranked ninth but were probably closer to the Top 5 with that move.

This year, the Browns are once again in the bottom third of miles traveled, eighth overall, with the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers having the second and fourth least miles traveled this year:

Cleveland’s longest trip is in Week 4 to face off with the Las Vegas Raiders, around 1,800 miles, with the Monday Night Football matchup with the Denver Broncos second at around 1,200 miles.

How much do you think travel miles impact teams in the NFL on a game-to-game basis?
