This is the UFC Vegas 91 live blog for Matheus Nicolau vs. Alex Perez, the main event Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Nicolau originally joined the UFC in 2015 after losing in the semifinals of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4, and made an immediate splash, going 3-0 in his first three fights. After a knockout loss to Dustin Ortiz though, Nicolau received his walking papers.

Two wins on the regional circuit brought Nicolau right back to the big show, and he made the most of it, rattling off four straight wins to move into the top five of the flyweight rankings and earn a title eliminator. That didn’t go well for him though, as Brandon Royval ran through him in April 2023. Now, Nicolau looks to rebound and reinsert himself into the title conversation.

Perez joined the UFC in 2017 from the Contender Series and, like Nicolau, made a quick splash, going 6-1 in his first seven fights. His only loss during that stretch was to all-time great Joseph Benavidez.

It’s been tough sledding for Perez lately though, as the Team Oyama fighter has lost his past three outings, when he’s able to even get in the cage in the first place. Injuries and bad luck have repeatedly forced Perez out of action, so a win will not only break a bad streak of losses, but also be a good confidence boost for his career.
