Tiger Woods, 100 million dollars for his loyalty

on

The loyalty of two golf icons like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy appears to come with a price tag for the PGA Tour. According to The Telegraph, the California champion will receive up to $100 million in shares, compared to the $50 million for the Northern Irishman.

It seems that the two main adversaries of the LIV Golf are thus ready to be “compensated” for not choosing to endorse the project of the Arab Super League funded by PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. Indeed, LIV CEO Greg Norman emphasized that he has never “delivered an offer,” let alone one for $850,000, to McIlroy. For the “great white shark” of the green, it was deemed “fake news.”

Eldrick Tront Woods, born to an African-American father, Earl, and a Thai mother, Kultida, was nicknamed “Tiger” by his father. He began playing golf practically as soon as he could walk and was soon regarded as a golf prodigy. At the age of fifteen in 1990, he became the youngest golfer to win the Junior National Championships, a feat he repeated in the following two years. After consecutively winning three titles as the U.S. amateur circuit champion (1994, 1995, and 1996), he turned professional and immediately secured two tournament victories in his first year on the circuit.

With 15 major tournament wins between 1997 and 2019, he has indelibly shaped the history of the sport, bringing it into the spotlight after years without such a dominant and charismatic figure. Among the many historic moments in golf, his incredible chip-in approach on the 16th hole of the final round of the 2005 Masters and his victory in a playoff against Rocco Mediate at the 2008 U.S. Open, despite playing four rounds with a fractured tibia and a knee ligament that would be reconstructed shortly after, are particularly memorable. His rivalries with Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh are also legendary, as they were among the few athletes capable of challenging, albeit intermittently, his dominance.

Tiger Woods holds the remarkable record of 54 victories and only 4 losses in tournaments where he led after three rounds, fueling the myth of the unbeatable “Sunday Tiger Woods,” invariably dressed in a red shirt and black pants on the final round Sunday (a superstition passed down from his mother since childhood). He holds the record for the fewest strokes in all four Major Tournaments, is tied with Jack Nicklaus as the only player to have won the “Career Grand Slam” three times, and is the only golfer in history to have won more than one Major Tournament for two consecutive years (2005-2006).
