Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles GM Howie Roseman: Adding Saquon Barkley was ‘way to zig when everyone’s zagging’ – NFL.com
“From our perspective, you get to a situation where you kind of try to find, is something being undervalued?” Philadelphia’s general manager Howie Roseman told Adam Schein last week on Mad Dog Sports Radio. “Is there a way to zig when everyone’s zagging? Or I don’t know if it’s the opposite, and you’re freakin’ zagging when zigging. But I think that it’s hard to find difference-making players and people, and it’s hard to find them for a cost. Those guys, they go for a lot of money, and we felt like there was an opportunity to get one of those guys in Saquon and bring him to the team.” […] “There’s risk in every decision you make, but we don’t think there’s any risk on the talent,” Roseman said. “We don’t think there’s any risk on the person. And we also feel like maybe — not that it wasn’t anywhere else — but we have a good situation here with us in Philly to kind of maximize him. I don’t think there’s anyone when he came out of the draft that didn’t think he wasn’t a Hall of Fame-caliber talent and person. He’s still young, and we’re really excited to have him.”

Grading the Eagles’ 2024 NFL Draft class – BGN
To me, Roseman and company did a good job of adding high-level talent while also conveniently addressing a major position of need at the top of the draft. The Day 3 picks were worthwhile gambles, if not better … as in the case of the Trotter Jr. selection. Didn’t love the Hunt pick but that selection alone isn’t enough to drag the total grade down. Between the nine picks they made and the future ones they acquired, I thought the Eagles used a pretty good process, which is what we’re ultimately evaluating here.

Sunday Notebook – Draft Trends – Iggles Blitz
If you wanted to put it simply, he is the opposite of former Eagle Andre Dillard. While Dillard was a gifted athlete with good length, he was soft. He didn’t play with any edge and struggled to adapt to the brutal nature of trench life in the NFL. You are going to get beat, no matter who you are. You have to move on to the next play and keep battling. Trevor Keegan is an average athlete with average length, but he is a grinder. He will battle from snap to whistle, sometimes a bit more. He plays with an edge, which is what you want from your linemen.

Jason Kelce offers to help Eagles’ undersized center – NBCSP
“Just wished me good luck. Like I said, it was pretty surreal meeting him. He said he hopes to help me out in anyway he can. So that will be pretty cool.” The Eagles had their rookie minicamp this past weekend so it was the first chance for McMahon (6-3, 299) to get a taste of life in the NFL. But it was pretty cool for him to meet Kelce the day before it started. Because for McMahon, there’s no one better to look up to than Kelce. The recently retired Eagles legend is the perfect role model for a generation of undersized and athletic centers. And now McMahon will get to learn directly from Kelce … at least here and there. “I don’t want to bug him. I’d do it every day if I could,” McMahon said. “But he’s got his own stuff going around. He gave me his number. If I ever have a question or anything, I may just hit him up. If he doesn’t reply, because I know he’s got a lot of stuff going on, hopefully he will eventually. As much as I can without bugging him, for sure.” Most of McMahon’s lessons will come from offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who is a legend in his own right. But it’s pretty cool to have Kelce a phone call or text away.

2024 NFL draft questions: What were the best and worst picks? – ESPN
Who was your favorite pick in the entire draft? Stephania Bell, fantasy football analyst: Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell to the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 22. When a team fills a need with a standout prospect without breaking the bank to do it, it’s a winner. Mitchell is fast and agile and allowed no touchdowns in over 400 coverage snaps last season. He rose many draft boards in recent months … and yet, the Eagles were able to surprise the competition by snagging him here.

What the stats say about Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys adopting a ‘feed Zeke’ approach in 2024 – Blogging The Boys
However, bringing Elliott back in any capacity is a risky move because of the front office’s insistence on relying on Elliott. The salary isn’t a factor in this thinking as Jerry Jones has stated that he feels Elliott is still a starter in the NFL. The concern is with his advanced mileage as a runner and him nearing his age 30 season. Is it wise for the Cowboys to count on Elliott as they have done in the past? Remember, at the end of his first stint in Dallas, Elliott appeared to lack the explosiveness and elusiveness that made him an All-Pro. Let’s assess Elliott’s time spent in New England and see how much Dallas should lean on Elliott this season.

Is the Giants’ 2024 roster better than the one Joe Schoen inherited after the 2021 season? – Big Blue View
The Giants are set to begin their post-Saquon Barkley era this season. Barkley, of course, is a tremendous player. Fully healthy and productive, Barkley is one of the game’s best backs. In 2021, he wasn’t that. He gained only 593 yards in 13 games, as he came back from his 2020 knee injury and also missed time with another leg injury. Devontae Booker also gained 593 rushing yards. The Giants also, weirdly, carried two fullbacks. The 2024 roster will not have a player as talented as Barkley. Devin Singletary, though, has been a quality back throughout his career. He has three straight 800+ yard rushing seasons and a 4.6 yards per carry average that bests Barkley’s 4.3. Singletary was successful on 47.7% of his runs for the Houston Texans last season, while Barkley was successful on 40.1%, per Pro Football Reference. Fifth-round pick Tyrone Tracy Jr. and second-year man Eric Gray, a player who did not receive much of an opportunity on offense in 2023, are wild cards. Overall score: Worse. I would qualify “worse” by saying that this is the type of running back room I believe GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have wanted. Not that they minded having a great player, but I have always felt they didn’t want to have a running back chewing up a big portion of their salary cap. Now, they have a good player in Singletary who costs far less than Barkley leading that room, in addition to a couple of interesting young players in Gray and Tracy as part of a committee.

The 5 O’Clock Club: the Commanders corners – Hogs Haven
Washington’s cornerback group is interesting, in part because it features two returning players who have substantial question marks over their short and long-term futures in Benjamin St-Juste and Emmanuel Forbes. St-Juste has been on the field a lot over the 3 seasons since being selected by the Washington Football Team in the 3rd round of the 2021 draft, yet he has been part of an often-dysfunctional unit, and has often been ‘handsy’, drawing a lot of penalty flags. Forbes, who was drafted 16th overall last year, is an undersized player who struggled and was benched for a stretch during his rookie season. It’s possible that both players may benefit from a new coaching staff.
