The Elite face consequences for their disgusting actions

AEW Dynamite

Dynamite airs tonight (May 8) with a live show from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This is the third episode of Dynamite during the five week build towards Double or Nothing, which takes place on May 26.

The Elite face consequences for their disgusting actions

AEW President Tony Khan can’t travel due to the head and neck injuries he sustained at the hands of The Elite last month. This was all part of a power play by EVPs Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, who used their ironclad contracts to take over the show in Khan’s absence.

Fellow EVP Kenny Omega returned to AEW to address this situation in his home town last week, but it didn’t end well for him. He was confronted by Kazuchika Okada before being ambushed by Jack Perry. The Young Bucks joined in to send their former partner out of the arena on a stretcher.

It turns out this wasn’t just a one-off appearance for Kenny, who won’t be able to wrestle for a long while due to diverticulitis. He’s back on Dynamite tonight, and this time he will make an “important announcement.”

I doubt that his important announcement will have anything to do with the pre-sale date for tickets to an upcoming AEW show. Instead, it’s much more likely that Ken will use his EVP powers to dish out some kind of punishment for The Elite after what they did to him and Tony Khan in recent weeks.

The Double or Nothing pay-per-view is coming up later this month, and the event needs a main event. Perhaps Kenny’s important announcement will involve booking The Elite in some kind of high stakes main event match that they want no part of on PPV. The Young Bucks have a long list of enemies including folks like FTR, PAC, the Lucha Bros, Daniel Garcia, Eddie Kingston, and The Blackpool Combat Club, and so it shouldn’t be too hard for Kenny to come up with a match where they face appropriate consequences for their disgusting actions.

Okada and the Bucks happen to hold championship gold in AEW, so there could also be a winner-takes-all kind of stipulation in play for whatever Omega has in mind. Are we looking at another Anarchy in the Arena match with some of AEW’s top babyfaces squaring off against The Elite? Could Hangman Page return to AEW as part of this story?

The rest of tonight’s lineup

TNT Champion Adam Copeland defends the belt tonight against Brody King. The Rated R Superstar defeated Buddy Matthews last week, so this looks like the next leg of his feud against the House of Black, with Malakai Black as the final boss who is waiting for him at the end of it.

Orange Cassidy vs. Trent Beretta is finally happening on Dynamite. Trent turned on Orange last month and then made it so that his former best friend Chuck Taylor can never wrestle again, following a brutal assault in a Parking Lot Fight. Orange and Trent got into it last week, in a scene that ended with Orange walking out with Don Callis. I have a feeling that was a bit of misdirection, and Trent will be the one walking out with Don tonight. The Callis family could certainly use a new member after Powerhouse Hobbs’ recent knee injury.

The losses are beginning to pile up for Mariah May, who will look to get back in the winners column tonight in her match against Harley Cameron. Harley and Saraya are sick of hearing about Timeless Toni Storm’s chin, tits, and shoe, and they plan to make Mariah suffer as a result.

Speaking of the AEW women’s world champion, her next challenger Serena Deeb is scheduled for a speaking segment tonight. Deeb is confident that she will defeat Storm for the gold at Double or Nothing, so perhaps she will try to make it an I Quit match to really lean in on her strengths as a wrestler.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland has a face-to-face confrontation tonight with his challenger at Double or Nothing, Christian Cage. It sounds like Swerve isn’t coming alone this time, but he better make sure he can 100% trust whoever will be at his side, because Christian has a special knack for convincing others to join his cause.

Finally, Big Bill and FTW Champion Chris Jericho will be in action tonight. This is Big Bill’s big chance to finally sit under The Learning Tree and elevate his game to the next level. After all, that’s what inevitably happens when you enter the Jericho Vortex. Will Katsuyori Shibata or HOOK show up afterwards looking for a fight?

Other stuff to keep an eye

– Mercedes Mone has done a whole lot of nothing talking since mid March while we await her AEW in-ring debut at Double or Nothing. She’ll challenge Willow Nightingale for the TBS championship on that show. Willow prepared for the match by defeating Skye Blue with a power bomb through a barbed wire board last week. Does Mercedes really know what she’s getting into here? More importantly, will the mystery attacker who took out both Mercedes and Willow last month strike again tonight?

– Will Ospreay might win his first title in AEW when he fights International Champion Roderick Strong at Double or Nothing. If the Undisputed Kingdom truly understands how much of a threat Opreay is to that belt, the group should probably send Wardlow to pay Will a visit ASAP.

– Bryan Danielson is off the road right now due to the injury he sustained by Ospreay’s Tiger Driver ‘91 at Double or Nothing. Will AEW announce anything about a potential return next week in his home state of Washington?

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley is always looking for a face to punch. Will a new challenger step up to face him for NJPW gold at Double or Nothing, or will Mox instead take part in some kind of faction warfare?

– Who will Samoa Joe choke out next in AEW after losing the world title last month?

– Matt Hardy says his brother Jeff is medically cleared to return to AEW after suffering a broken nose in February. Could we possibly see Jeff on TV tonight?

– Rey Fenix is a wrestler who we probably won’t see on TV tonight, even though he just recently returned to AEW. It sounds like Fenix was not medically cleared to wrestle in Mexico this past weekend, so he may be injured again.

– Are there any new trios challengers looking to get a piece of Bullet Club Gold?

– Where the f*** is Scorpio Sky?

What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
