Ssumday – a legendary top laner for the LCK and LCS

The announcement came directly through the player’s X personal page, stating he would be going to join the military later this year in July. While he mentioned he doesn’t know what will happen after that, he will try to find out “what he wants to do”.

The Korean top laner made initial headlines when he made his way onto the KT Rolster’s starting lineup in 2015, after spending two years on the academy program. Despite being a rookie, Ssumday earned himself an appearance at Worlds after winning the LCK Regional Final. While he wasn’t able to repeat himself the following year, it was clear that the guy had potential and Dignitas decided to bring him over to the LCS, where he would spend the rest of his long-standing career.

Mainly known for his long career on 100 Thieves, Ssumday was a decisive factor in the LoL team’s early success. Unfortunately, the results didn’t come too well as Ssumday only won one championship in 2021. That year also happened to be 100T’s best world championship appearance, ending with a 3-3 score in the group stage and only short of one win to qualify for the next round. In particular, the team was able to snatch one win against the 2021 world champion EDward Gaming, showing that the team had delivered.

The Korean player continued to deliver strong results domestically but entered a slump in the second half of the 2023 season, ending in eighth place during the LCS championship. Ssumday entered free agency but wasn’t picked up by the other teams for the 2024 season. Now, it looks like we won’t be able to see Ssumday on stage: he did mention coaching or streaming as potential jobs but Ssumday is also open to working outside of the game.
