Snow Returns to Tarkov as a New Event Kicks Off

on

There’s a new Tarkov event live now, and it has brought about a return of the dreaded snow to Norvinsk. With the most recent patch, Battlestate Games has introduced a brand-new event to Escape from Tarkov that has been dubbed ‘Maslenitsa’. But what is Maslenitsa and why is it important? There are a few new quests that have surfaced as part of this fresh challenge, giving players more to do as the latest wipe continues to unravel.

It’s the first major event this wipe, but despite that, players are rueing the return of the snow. This was removed a few weeks ago after plaguing players for what felt like forever. The snow was a nice visual addition to Escape from Tarkov but it was so loud and crispy-crunchy that it made it hard to hear enemies over your own footsteps.

Read on to learn all about the new Tarkov event and to find out what Maslenitsa means.

How to Complete the New Tarkov Event

tarkov event

Tarkov’s new Maslenitsa event has caused lots of bonfires to spawn around every map in the game. The core goal is to light these bonfires by shooting them at close range with tracer rounds – Battlestate has set a global community goal of 1 million bonfires ignited. However, upon lighting the bonfires, players will be set upon by masked assailants who move silently and apply a ‘frostbite’ debuff to the player that impacts their health pool.

There are exclusive rewards to unlock, as well as plenty of XP for completing the new quests spawned by this event.

How to Complete The Spring Never Changes

The first new quest in Tarkov is the global community quest, called ‘The Spring Never Changes’. Battlestate has set a huge target: 1 million bonfires burnt. It’s manageable though – the entire global player base is invited to contribute toward that overall figure. To help out, you’ll need to find the bonfires that are scattered around Tarkov and shoot them with tracer rounds to light them up.

How to Complete The Evil Spirits

The Evil Spirits quest will pop up with the new patch, requesting that players kill one of the Followers of Morana, a mysterious new boss-like entity in Tarkov. These are the masked attackers that will chase you down when you light a bonfire, so it’s fairly easy to track them down to complete this objective. Just be careful how you’re fighting them, as they all wear a Tier 4 face mask that makes headshots tougher.

How to Complete The Granny’s Tales

Players will pick up the third new quest when they’ve completed The Evil Spirits, and it’s by far the toughest one. It requires players to kill 50 Followers of Morana – but given that they’re tougher enemies, it’s no small feat. There’s one advantage in the fact that they’re everywhere and can even be summoned, so you’re not going to be pressed for time scouring the various maps to find them.

What is Maslenitsa?

The new Tarkov event has a strange map, but what is Maslenitsa?

According to research, Maslenitsa is a Slavic holiday otherwise known as ‘Butter Week’ or ‘Cheese Week’. It’s a religious folk holiday that’s celebrated by consuming pancakes – or ‘blini’. There’s a ritual at the heart of the holiday, and it sees people burn a straw figure that’s representative of Winter. It’s supposed to mimic pagan rituals from the days of yore.

So, there you have it – that’s everything you need to know about the new Tarkov event. Be careful out there in the snow!
