Scheffler takes the lead of the RBC Heritage

on

Scottie Scheffler’s dominance in the golfing world has drawn comparisons to the legendary Tiger Woods. As the current world number one, Scheffler showcased his prowess at the RBC Heritage, seizing the lead with a one-shot advantage over Sepp Straka heading into the final round. The New Jersey native delivered an impeccable performance on moving day, carding an impressive -8 to claim the sole position atop the leaderboard at a total score of -16.

Amidst ideal weather conditions at Hilton Head, Scheffler demonstrated relentless precision during the third round at Harbour Town, concluding the day with a bogey-free round and eight birdies (63 strokes). Not since Bernhard Langer in 1985 has a Masters champion secured victory the following week on the PGA Tour, yet Scheffler stands poised to rewrite history. Even when faced with challenges, Scheffler managed to gain ground, exemplified by his performance on the ninth hole, where a challenging second shot from a bunker led to a remarkable birdie putt of over ten and a half meters, securing his sole leadership in the tournament.

A pivotal putt on the 18th green enabled Straka to narrow the gap to -15, positioning himself in second place, trailing Scheffler by a single stroke. Straka, whose solid performance included four birdies without errors, will be paired with Scheffler in the final round, amidst forecasts of wind and storms. Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa, though consistently competitive, struggled to find his rhythm on the course, settling for a 68 (-3) to descend to -14, with a disappointing bogey on the 16th hole.

At one point during the Saturday showdown, the prospect of a Scheffler vs. Ludvig Aberg duel emerged, with the Swedish contender briefly taking the lead before faltering towards the end. Aberg, alongside Sahith Theegala and Patrick Rodgers, now sits in the third-place group at -13. The top-10 at the Harbour Town Golf Links, currently occupied by Seamus Power, Patrick Cantlay, Tom Hoge, and J.T. Poston at -12, signifies intense competition as players vie for position in the standings.
