Speaking after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’ win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 19th, Uthappa lauded the LSG skipper’s knock, calling it “absolutely delightful.” He acknowledged initial doubts about Rahul’s inclusion in the World Cup squad, but his current form suggests otherwise.

Uthappa highlighted Rahul’s recent shift in batting approach, focusing on acceleration at the top order rather than anchoring the innings. This, according to Uthappa, makes him even more valuable in the T20 format.

“In fact, over the last couple of weeks, I was thinking, I don’t think he’s going to figure in the in the World Cup squad, but I think if he continues to bat the way he’s batting right now, he’ll find himself a spot there. Whether it’s as a reserve opener and wicket keeper, that’s a dual role that he can fulfil. I think you might just see him back in that in the in the front runners of that spot,” said Uthappa on JioCinema.

With the wicketkeeper-batter position a topic of discussion for selectors, Rahul’s resurgence in the IPL presents a compelling case. His consistent performances and adaptability at the crease could solidify his spot in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
