Two other playoff contenders wanted to sign Odell Beckham Jr. before he chose the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins had competition signing Odell Beckham Jr. but the three-time wide receiver was sold on the opportunity to operate in Mike McDaniel’s offense. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday that the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills were interested in signing Beckham, but the Dolphins persuaded him with consistent campaigning.

“Miami has talked to Beckham for weeks trying to secure this deal,” Fowler said. “The incentive package helped it get over the top.”

Initially reported as an $8 million deal, it was later revealed that Beckham accepted a $3 million contract that can reach $8.25 million with incentives. OBJ started six games last season with the Baltimore Ravens and finished the year with 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns. He ranked eighth in the NFL with 16.1 yards per reception.

“I was told OBJ was intrigued by the chance to produce with Mike McDaniel,” Fowler said. “[Beckham] believes that [McDaniel] will get him the ball. He still has a lot to prove and talking to people around the league, if [Beckham] embraces being an inside receiver, he could make a killing in this offense.

“I was told Kansas City was appealing, Buffalo as well, but Miami sold him being the most persistent.”
