Spanish golfer David Puig is set to participate in the upcoming PGA Championship, having received a special invitation from the PGA of America. This news was reported by the golf specialized website ‘Tengolf.es’. Puig’s inclusion increases the Spanish presence at the second major of the season to three, joining Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, and Adrián Otaegui, who qualified after his victory at the Volvo China Open on the DP World Tour.

Currently ranked 106th in the world, Puig secures his spot in the PGA Championship not through the automatic qualification which reserves places for the top 100 players but rather through a discretionary invitation from the American professional golf institution. This invitation reflects his rising status in the golf world, particularly following his victory at the Malaysia Open in February.
The PGA Championship will mark the second major appearance in Puig’s career, his first being at the US Open in 2023. Additionally, Puig has already secured his place at the British Open at Royal Troon in July, thanks to his win at the Malaysia Open on the Asian Tour.

Rahm attended Arizona State University, where he won 11 college tournaments, ranking second only to Phil Mickelson, who secured 16 titles. In 2015, as an amateur, he competed in the Phoenix Open, finishing fifth. On April 1st, he ascended to the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking, holding the position for 25 weeks before regaining it for an additional 35 weeks. This achievement qualified him for the following year’s U.S. Open and Open Championship, where he placed twenty-third in the former before turning professional, thereby forfeiting his right to play in the latter.
His professional debut came at the Quicken Loans National, finishing third. He then secured second place at the Canadian Open. At the end of the season, he earned a PGA Tour card for 2017. Rahm clinched his first victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, thanks to an eagle on the final hole, gaining entry into the world’s major tournaments. At the Mexico Championship, part of the World Golf Championships series, he finished third, two strokes behind the winner, Dustin Johnson, and then lost to Johnson in the final of the second event, the Dell Technologies Match Play. He later won the Irish Open by six strokes and the season-ending European Tour event, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, also receiving the Rookie of the Year award.
