Quinyon Mitchell was considered the top prospect at his position, and Howie Roseman didn’t even have to trade up to get him.
The Eagles had things fall their way in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and with an offense-heavy start to the night (six QBs and five OTs taken in the first 18 picks), there was plenty of defensive talent available at No. 22. Howie Roseman had made some calls, but didn’t end up having to trade up to get the top CB prospect, and was able to pick Quinyon Mitchell out of Toledo.
Some of his new teammates were quick to celebrate the selection, and other reactions to the pick included shock that the Eagles were able to have their choice of CB at No. 22.

Other reactions
The pick was pretty universally celebrated, with Mitchell clearly one of the most talented prospects in this year’s draft class. He’ll bring some much needed speed and youth at the position, and was a great steal at No. 22.
Quinyon Mitchell to @JClarkNBCS yesterday about the possibility of playing for the Eagles: “It would be great. Great playing for that city and that fanbase. I would really enjoy it.”

Quinyon Mitchell did not allow a TD in 402 coverage snaps in 2023. His 15 Pass breakups tied for the most in the FBS.
— Tim McManus (@Tim_McManus) April 26, 2024
Quinyon Mitchell had 37 pass break ups over the past two seasons.
He had as good of a pre-draft process as any defensive player in the draft.
The Eagles desperately needed speed at corner and this is a perfect fit.
A great value.

Philadelphia was asking around to see if they had to move up into the top 10 for Quinyon Mitchell. They land the CB1 at 22. Absolutely insane. Howie Roseman, man.

Quinyon Mitchell: 6 foot, 195.
Great ball production: 44 passes defended and 6 INTs in 27 games the past two seasons.
Ran 4.33. Did not commit a penalty last year and had just one DPI over the last two seasons (per @dpbrugler).
Did not play a lot of press in college, but was…

For the first time since 2002, the Eagles used a first-round pick on a cornerback: Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell.
And now, at pick No. 22, Mitchell becomes the first defensive back selected in this draft.
