The former Auburn quarterback had a breakout year in Oregon this past year and has elevated his draft stock.

With the Denver Broncos expected to release veteran quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason, they will be searching the draft for his replacement. One name that has been linked to the Broncos early in the process has been breakout Oregon quarterback, Bo Nix. He transferred from Auburn where he had a disappointing career to Oregon and this past year had himself a breakout season that elevated his draft stock.

Now, Pro Football Focus is listing Nix as the “perfect prospect” for the Denver Broncos this offseason.

They mention Nix’s arm strength and “NFL arm” as strengths along with his added mobility that we saw used throughout his career. On top of that, he has 60 games of starting experience under his belt which could be viewed as a strength(or weakness). They conclude by saying they think Payton and Nix could work well together.

DENVER BRONCOS: QB BO NIX, OREGON

With Russell Wilson now on the bench and on his way out of Denver, the Broncos need a new quarterback. The problem is, I can’t in all good conscience put Caleb Williams or Drake Maye here knowing how much it would take to move up that high in the draft. If they stay in the middle of the first round, where they are projected to pick, Nix would be an ideal option. Nix has legit NFL arm strength in both distance and velocity, as well as added mobility with his legs. He’s also the most experienced college quarterback of all time with 60 games as a starter. He and Sean Payton could work well together.

This past season for Oregon, Nix had an incredible year for the Ducks. He set career highs in yards, completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns, and a career low in interceptions. Nix finished the year with 4,508 yards passing, 45 touchdown passes, 3 interceptions, a 77.4 completion percentage, 9.6 passing yards per attempt, and an additional 234 yards rushing and 6 rushing touchdowns. This made him a Heisman finalist but he ultimately ended up finishing third in the voting.

Fox Sports analyst Joe Klatt recently said that Nix reminds him of former Saints Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees whom Sean Payton coached for years. He states that Nix is going to “knock it out of the park” when he meets with teams face-to-face throughout the process. This could intrigue Payton who is known for having a difficult playbook to learn. If Nix impresses in meetings and on the whiteboard, that could make him a legit option for the Broncos.

The Broncos and the rest of the league will get an early look at Nix in an NFL environment when he takes part in the Senior Bowl here in a few weeks. The Heisman finalist and former Oregon Ducks quarterback has accepted an invite and will go through drills and meet with each and every team, including the Broncos. This will be a big week for him as he will look to push for the 4th and 5th spot on the quarterback rankings and maybe even higher if he has a strong week on the field and during the interview process.

So now I ask you Broncos Country. Do you agree with Pro Football Focus and believe Oregon quarterback is the perfect prospect for the Broncos and should take him in the 1st round of the 2024 NFL Draft? Or do you believe another quarterback or prospect makes more sense for them? Let us know in the poll and comments below!
