Premier Division wide open as penultimate round approaches

Ormesby will face Brighton TTC this weekend in a crunch SBL Premier Division tie. The winner will cement their place at the top of the mini league going into the final round of fixtures.

David McBeath is unavailable for the travelling side, a huge loss for Ormesby given his incredible form this season. Enio Mendes, Sam Mabey and Ben Piggot will represent the north-east side looking to go one better than last year and pick up the title.

BATTS will be hoping to get their title ambitions back on track when they face last year’s champions Ormeau in what will be their final home match of the season. After only their second loss of the season two weeks ago, they field Chris Doran, Josh Bennett and the club’s junior superstar Ralph Pattison. A win for BATTS will mean the league champions will be decided by results on the final day of the season.

Ormeau will be hoping to stop the home side’s charge towards a first-ever league title. Jonathan Mooney, James Skelton and Conor Nugent will make the journey from Belfast.

Eyes will also be on the other end of the table this weekend, as two fascinating ties are scheduled in the lower mini league.

North Ayrshire missed out in a tense 4-3 affair last time they faced TableTennisDaily (TTD). They come into Saturday’s rematch full of confidence off the back of victories against Drumchapel Glasgow and Fusion.

The Scottish side have selected a four-player squad, opting to make a final selection on match day. Viktor Gorman, Colin Dalgleish, Martin Johnson and Hugo Torngren are the four players in contention.

TTD’s manager Anthony Kent is hoping earlier season results will be replicated in the final few rounds of action. Ahead of the tie he said: “With two matches left in the season, we’re now playing the teams we picked up wins against earlier in the campaign, so we’re heading into this Saturday’s match with some confidence.

“We’re expecting a tough clash against North Ayrshire in their home venue but we’re up for the challenge and want the win.”

Their team is made up of Callum Evans, Umair Mauthoor and Dan Ives.

Drumchapel Glasgow are looking to bounce back from defeat against North Ayrshire earlier this month as they face Fusion. Their Coach, Sepehr Bidari, said his side will need to pick themselves up for a ‘must win’ match.

He said: “The boys were unlucky to lose to North Ayrshire, it was a decent effort and again it was tight margins which didn’t go our way. North Ayrshire showed their quality under pressure and that was the difference.”

Fusion will pose a real challenge with Larry Trumpauskas starting as their number one. He will be joined by Shaqullie Webb-Dixon, who returns to the fold, and Lorestas Trumpauskas. The trio go into the weekend determined to seal a second win over the Glasgow-based rivals this season.
