Conor McDermott’s 2023 season ended on injured reserve in December.

The 90-man roster will go forward without Conor McDermott.

The New England Patriots announced the release of the veteran offensive tackle on Monday, marking the end of his third stint with the organization.

McDermott, 31, had been placed on injured reserve on the heels of entering the NFL’s concussion protocol in December. The UCLA product started five of his six appearances at left tackle last regular season. He saw 228 offensive snaps over that span and was promoted to the active roster in November after reaching the league limit with three standard elevations.

Selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2017 draft at No. 211 overall, McDermott’s initial tour in Foxborough concluded as the Buffalo Bills claimed him off waivers at the end of his rookie preseason. The 6-foot-8, 310-pound swing bookend agreed to return off the New York Jets’ practice squad amid a series of injuries in the fall of 2022. He allowed zero sacks in pass protection that campaign en route to signing a contract extension.

Last August, McDermott landed on IR at the league’s 53-man roster deadline. He subsequently reached an injury settlement with New England in September before making his way back as a member of the practice squad in October.

Standing 55 games into his AFC East career, McDermott has made 17 starts and added a touchdown catch as an eligible tight end. His departure from New England’s plans follows the selection former Penn State tackle Caedan Wallace in the third round of the 2024 draft.

The Mike Onwenu-led depth chart also includes Chukwuma Okorafor, Calvin Anderson, Vederian Lowe, Tyrone Wheatley Jr. and Andrew Stueber under contract.

Two roster spots remain open as rookie minicamp awaits at Gillette Stadium.
