Novak Djokovic: “Some groups love to boo your every single gesture”

on

The Parisian crowd, this year, does not seem to forgive any unconventional gesture to the tennis players involved in the Roland Garros 2023. Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz know this well, as they had to deal with two situations that were anything but easy to manage .

The American defeated the home player Arthur Rinderknech and almost had to interrupt the interview due to numerous boos. Fritz played in a rather hostile atmosphere and expressed his disappointment at the end of the dispute.

Djokovic, for his part, was booed for simply cheering loudly after a set that lasted more than an hour. The boos also accompanied the delicate moment in which the Serbian needed the physiotherapist to test the conditions of his leg.

Nole did not appreciate the behavior reserved for him by some individuals and ironically applauded.

Novak Djokovic: “Some people behave disrespectfully”

In the press conference, Nole explained: “My relationship with the crowd in Paris has had its ups and downs throughout my career.

But I have received a lot of support over the years, I think of the seasons where I was losing a lot of finals or the last points before winning the title. I have received a lot of support and love, and I am very grateful for that.

I have wonderful memories. Even today I get a lot of support here. I think most people come to enjoy a tennis match and support one of two committed players. But there are individuals, some groups sometimes, who love to boo your every single gesture.

I find this really disrespectful, frankly I don’t understand it. But it’s their right: they paid for the ticket. They can do whatever they want. 99% of the time I try to remain silent, others I oppose. When a person acts disrespectfully, he deserves to have an answer. Here’s what it is.”

Djokovic gained access to the round of 16 at Roland Garros by beating the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a very tough and intense match.
