A report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Broncos are more likely to trad

According to NFL Network’s insider Tom Pelissero, he has a sense that the Denver Broncos are more likely to trade down than up in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Pelissero states that the acquisition of quarterback Zach Wilson is not expected to have a substantive impact on what Denver does in the draft. He then says that he has a sense that the Broncos are more likely to trade down from 12th overall than move up.

“The Broncos acquired former first-rounder Zach Wilson from the Jets on Monday, and have been a team expected to have designs on taking a quarterback in the 2024 first round, where they currently hold the No. 12 overall pick. Does the Wilson acquisition change anything come draft day? NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Monday that the trade isn’t expected to have a substantive impact on what Denver does in the draft. Furthermore, Pelissero has a sense that the Broncos are more likely to trade down from No. 12 than trade up.”

This is interesting because the Broncos have been in the news a lot pre-draft as a team that could make an aggressive trade-up. However, Pelissero, who has good sources with the Broncos and is usually the one reporting their news is saying otherwise.

So why is this? I have always felt the Broncos’ odds of trading up have always been low. They really cannot afford to give up more future first-round picks and cannot outbid the Vikings. Also, all four top quarterbacks could be selected within the first 4-5 picks, so the Broncos, who do not have a second-round pick could look to trade back and acquire more picks.

Despite all this, Pelissero says that the Broncos have been a team expected to have designs on taking a quarterback in the first round of the draft. If that still is true, and they trade back, Oregon quarterback Bo Nix could be their target. I have said from the beginning that he is an excellent fit for Sean Payton’s offense and would not cost the Broncos multiple first-round picks to get. They could trade back and take him later in the first while also collecting more draft picks to continue to build up their roster.

We are still a few days away from the start of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft so more news, reports, and rumors are likely coming our way. So stay tuned to Mile High Report for all the news and rumors surrounding the Denver Broncos as we approach the start of the 2024 NFL Draft.
