The top of the NFL Draft has been about as QB-heavy as possible.

Anyone hoping the Seattle Seahawks would draft a quarterback at No. 16 or even a little bit further down in the 2024 NFL Draft… I have some bad news for you.

As expected, USC’s Caleb Williams went to the Chicago Bears at No. 1, followed by LSU’s Jayden Daniels at No. 2 to the Washington Commanders, and then North Carolina’s Drake Maye was taken at No. 3 by the New England Patriots.

Then things got really fun.

The Atlanta Falcons, having signed Kirk Cousins to a $160 million contract with $100 million guaranteed, took Washington’s Michael Penix Jr at No. 8 overall. Two picks later, the Minnesota Vikings traded up one spot to select Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. Another two picks later saw the Denver Broncos select Oregon’s Bo Nix.

If you’re keeping score, that’s six quarterbacks in the top-12. Nix didn’t look like he’d be a first-round selection even a few weeks ago and suddenly he shot up to the top-half of the draft order.

Williams, Maye, Penix, McCarthy, and Nix were all drafted by teams scheduled to play the Seahawks this regular season. How many of them will be starting when those games actually happen remains to be seen, but we could see a deluge of rookie talent going up against Mike Macdonald’s defense.

If the Seahawks are going to draft a quarterback, it’s almost certainly going to be on Day 2 or Day 3, because I’m pretty sure Spencer Rattler didn’t magically soar into first-round status in recent days.
