It seems AEW lost two international distribution deals

Last July, AEW announced a deal with TelevisaUnivision that put their programming on the streaming ViX platform in Mexico and countries in Latin America & the Caribbean. But based on an undated update to the ViX’s support page, AEW content is no longer offered on the service:

Effective immediately AEW events will no longer be broadcasted on ViX. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that alternative entertainment options will be provided.

Multiple outlets have made inquiries to both AEW and ViX about the status of their relationship, but have yet to receive responses.

AEW also announced an international distribution deal with DAZN in January 2023 that made Dynamite, Collision, Rampage, PPVs & more to many countries in Europe. After fans & industry observers noticed AEW content hasn’t been listed on DAZN since the beginning of this year, combat sports writer Steve Muehlhausen (who worked for DAZN in the past) posted on X/Twitter that AEW’s relationship with that company is also over. Muehlhausen also clarified that he puts the blame on DAZN for AEW’s lack of success on the platform.

DAZN and AEW had a three-year deal with DAZN having the right to drop them after the first year. DAZN exercised the option that ended the deal on New Year’s Eve.

The reason DAZN dropped AEW was because except for All In, the PPV numbers were below expectations and not enough people were watching (except for select episodes and the first month of Collision) where AEW was available internationally so DAZN ended the deal early.

Want to make PERFECTLY CLEAR, to me it wasn’t AEW fault the deal wasn’t renewed.

I ran the wrestling social side for DAZN. AEW bent over backwards when I asked for interviews and liners from talent to promote their major TV shows and PPVs.

DAZN NEVER gave wrestling even 5 percent of the budget given to boxing and MMA which to me was a shame as wrestling had a real shot at DAZN but besides me and the news team, it never got the opportunity it deserved.

The moves have brought some speculation that AEW could be looking to consolidate all its global streaming with one partner (such as Warner Bros Discovery’s MAX), there’s no reporting that currently indicates that’s the case. All AEW content still remains available outside the United States an Canada with the AEW Plus subscription package on Fite/Triller.

While neither deals’ financials were ever publicly announced, WrestlenomicsBrandon Thurston estimates AEW’s deal with ViX was worth $150,000 annually while the DAZN partnership is estimated to have brought in $250,000 per year.
