Is Fortnite Mobile Still a Thing? Game Returns to iOS Very Soon

on

Fortnite is a huge title that spans multiple games, available just about everywhere. One noticeable absence lately though has been mobile devices. While Fortnite Mobile on Android has worked, on iOS things have been different. We’ll soon get the game back on mobile platforms though! Or at least some of us in select regions will have them.

This week, Epic took to Twitter to give an update on the game’s mobile journey. We learned a short while ago that the game was coming back to iOS. However, we didn’t get a conclusive update for quite a while. Epic has now cleared everything up. So, is Fortnite Mobile still a thing and how will the iOS return work?

Is Fortnite Mobile Still Online?

Fortnite Mobile never really went away. At least not fully.

Epic took their game off of the official storefronts in a disagreement over royalties and payments. This led to lawsuits between Google, and also the Epic and Apple legal fights. However, on Android, you could always download the game separately through their own site. On iOs though the game was long.

The game’s ongoing drive through seasons meant Epic kept the mobile game updated. Everyone can enjoy Chapters 3, 4, and 5 on mobile. However, the game’s increasing scope makes it a tad trickier to get great performance out of most devices.

Recently, Epic has confirmed the game is coming back in a bigger way very soon. When will Fortnite Mobile be back on iOS and other platforms?

Fortnite is Coming Back to iOS

Fortnite is going to come back to iOS very soon! This will be a return to the game through an alternative storefront. There are some caveats though. For one thing, it’s only on one platform.

In Europe, Apple is being forced by regulators to allow third-party storefronts. This means Epic is free to offer Fortnite without compromising on their royalty agreements. Rather than enforce the openness everywhere though, Apple is only allowing it in the EU. This means all other regions will be missing the game still.

Epic has been working for a little while to make sure that the game will work great back on the platform. It’s a shame this won’t be more widely available though. The game isn’t coming back for everyone. It is going to be back on iPad too though. Quite notably, Fortnite on iPad previously got pretty impressive.

The game can run at 120 FPS on iPad. Back when Epic offered Fortnite esports tournaments on mobile, players would take advantage of this. They mopped up prize money against players on much more limited hardware.

Getting Fortnite mobile back on iOS is definitely a big win for players. We won’t be getting it everywhere, but the title is coming back on iOS in some form.
