Golden Nuggets: Two weeks away

Your daily San Francisco 49ers news for Sunday, August 27th, 2023

Kawakami: The 49ers’ Trey Lance era comes to an awkward and necessary end (paywall)

“But for now, this team is remarkably talented. Purdy seems like a winner. If Lance isn’t clearly better than Darnold (and he probably was worse this summer), the 49ers don’t have time to try to develop Lance anymore. Darnold is more reliable. Darnold was brought in because the 49ers figured he’d be more reliable than Lance, and nothing that happened this summer switched up anything. And now Lance is gone, after four 49ers starts in two seasons. Which seems amazingly fast and also feels like it took forever.”

Latu’s knee, other injuries likely to impact 49ers’ initial roster

“I’ve never been in this situation before where we have two really good kickers in our camp and a few days before the final 53, both kickers aren’t available at this time,” Shanahan said. “These next couple days are important just for us to see how rehab is going and try to guess where it’s going to be two weeks from now when we kick off.”

What Kyle Shanahan said the day after 49ers’ preseason finale vs. Chargers

“San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call on Saturday, the day after the team’s 23-12 preseason loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. Here is everything he had to say.”

49ers unsure of kicking situation after multiple injuries

“The Niners will work out multiple kickers this week, said Shanahan, who didn’t rule out a potential reunion with Robbie Gould, who had been the team’s kicker since 2017 before the team opted for Moody and Gonzalez in the offseason.”

PFF’s highest- and lowest-graded 49ers players vs. Chargers, plus snap counts

“Jaylon Moore, LT, 87.1, 34 snaps.”
