In a stunning, come from behind victory, this year’s victor ended Day 2 with zero points and walked away with a year’s worth of bragging rights after correctly guessing a trio of players selected by the Seahawks on Day 3.

The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books, and with it the 2024 Field Gulls Armchair GM Challenge, which saw several entrants start strong, but it was a comeback for the history books on Day 3 that propelled the champion to victory.

Getting right to the players the Seattle Seahawks added in the draft, here is the number of entrants to have correctly guessed that the Hawks would select the player.

  • Byron Murphy, Texas: 90
  • Christian Haynes, UConn: 18
  • Tyrice Knight, UTEP: 53
  • A.J. Barner, Michigan: 16
  • Nehemiah Pritchett, Auburn: 2
  • Sataoa Laumea, Utah: 5
  • D.J. James, Auburn: 0
  • Michael Jerrell, Findlay: 9

This year’s competition was perhaps the most controversial, as entrant Jeremy Lee jumped out to an early lead on Day 1 after having completed an entry form that included Byron Murphy at four different spots on their submission. That strategy paid off to the tune of 65 points when the Seahawks selected Murphy at No. 16 on Thursday, but that was all the fire the strategy could must, with that entrant not adding any points to their total over the next seven selections made by Seattle.

That early lead was mostly gone Friday after user Riles206 vaulted up to 54 points having correctly projected both Murphy and Haynes to be selected by the team. Then, on Saturday, Riles206 jumped into the lead when the Seahawks took Barner, for a total of 73 points.

However, in contrast to the way Jeremy Lee started strong and then fizzled using their controversial multi-pick strategy, Day 3 belonged to OakleyD. Entering Day 3 with zero points having not predicted John Schneider to select either Murphy or Haynes, OakleyD’s chances seemed slim. However, things quickly changed when the Hawks took three of OakleyD’s projected players in a span of four selections. These players included Knight (25 points), Barner (28 points) and Laumea (21 points), putting OakleyD at 74 points and holding the lead by a single point with the Seahawks still holding a pair of sixth round selections.

As noted above, however, no entrants correctly projected Seattle to select James, and although nine entrants had the Hawks adding Jerrell to the offensive line, the top of the standings were not impacted. The final outcome included a tie for tenth place, meaning the final top ten standings, which was technically eleven entrants, was as follows:

  • 10T: TheHawkFatherPart12 (53)
  • 10T: daveblitzkrieg1416 (53)
  • 9: NiklasFromFinland (56)
  • 7T: Anita_Cocktail (57)
  • 7T: GoChaw82 (57)
  • 6: rvrspokane (59)
  • 5: Martin Blank (64)
  • 4: Jeremy Lee (65)
  • 3: Tripod444 (66)
  • 2: Riles206 (73)
  • 1: OakleyD (74)

So that’s that, and OakleyD is the 2024 Field Gulls Armchair GM Challenge champion, giving them bragging rights for the next year.
