Exoborne Playtests Are Coming Soon And Anyone Can Apply

on

Exoborne is an upcoming extraction shooter with some highly innovative elements. It was revealed last year with an exhilarating trailer that showcased verticality like never before. It’s being developed by Sharkmob, the creator of Bloodhunt. While the firm is also working on an unannounced project at a studio in London, the team’s Malmo studio is painstakingly creating Exoborne, which has been dubbed a ‘tactical open-world extraction shooter set in an apocalyptic U.S.’

There’s no indication of when Exoborne will be released, but these publically accessible playtests are a step in the right direction. Since the game was revealed, very little has been divulged about the project, but it’s expected to be shaping up nicely at Sharkmob. The development of Exoborne is being headed up by a former director of The Division, and recently, it was mentioned that the team wants to really shake up the genre with this innovative product.

The Apocalypse Like You’ve Never Seen It

In Exoborne, the world has been torn apart by natural catastrophes that will work their way into the core gameplay loop. It’s not so much about seeing the weather as a threat as it is seeing it as a tool or a weapon to be wielded. Players can use their ‘Exo-Rig’ abilities to soar through storms, channel lightning, and fight back against cataclysmic weather. Early descriptions of Exoborne have it firmly labelled as being a typical extraction shooter by nature:

‘Your goal is simple: bring back more than you lose. Load up, drop in, and live to tell the tale. Use the spoils looted during missions to craft and customize your gear, giving you the edge for the next time you head out. In this living world, we survive together or die alone. Although you are free to strike out on your own, it’s better to team up and think smart. ‘

While it’s an extraction shooter, it’ll be nothing like Escape from Tarkov and similar titles.

Recently, Sharkmob announced that a series of playtests will be taking place in the coming months. There’s a public sign-up form that anyone can complete, but it’s yet to be confirmed when or how these playtests will unravel. On the sign-up form, it asks you about the games that you play and the platforms you’re familiar with, but it wants to also know about the specifications of your PC. That means it might be a PC-only playtest for the time being.

It’ll also almost definitely be a behind-closed-doors playtest that goes hand-in-hand with an NDA.
