The Colts may have found their long-term SAF with Mizzou LB Jaylon Carlies, who should immediately help on special teams units.

The Indianapolis Colts brought it back to defense after selecting UCLA edge Laiatu Latu in the first round, now selecting Missouri linebacker Jaylon Carlies with the 151st pick in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft (which is currently Indy’s second of three fifth round picks):

At 6’3,” 227 pounds with 34 1’4” arms, Carlies played safety for the Tigers, but is listed as a linebacker for the Colts here—meaning he may be a SAF at the next level.

He recorded 64 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions for Indianapolis during 12 starts this past season.

Carlies has a RAS of 8.26 out of a maximum of 10.0, having run a 4.50 forty at the recent NFL Combine. Per NFL Next Gen Stats’, he’s the 13th most athletic SAF in this year’s class.

The former Mizzou standout could eventually be the long-term SAF in the role that Ronnie Harrison Jr. utilized for the Colts late in the 2023 campaign. However, he should immediately be able to contribute on special teams for Indianapolis.
