Aspas sets a VCT kill record for most kills on a single map

on

The second week of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Stage 1 has thrown quite a few curveballs for teams and fans of the leagues. Each league has its own storyline regarding players as well as teams. In the Pacific league, we have seen the rise of Paper Rex with the return of jinggg into their lineup to defeat Gen G. In VCT Americas, things have been looking quite different from what many predicted. One thing no one expected was that Erick “aspas” Santos would easily break one of the most formidable records in VCT. In this article, let’s look at how aspas broke the VCT Kill record against the current VCT Masters Champions, Sentinels.

Is Aspas finally back to his best in the VCT Americas Stage 1?

Aspas was part of the formidable LOUD VALORANT roster that reigned supreme in 2022 — climbing their way to the peak of VCT by winning the VALORANT Champions 2022 with LOUD. But things didn’t look the same following that. During the 2023 season with LOUD, he finished second during the VCT LOCK//IN and seventh during the VCT Masters Tokyo.

During this time, there were reports of rifts between the LOUD players, resulting in aspas leaving the team and joining Leviatán. In the following off-season, there were glimpses of the aspas who dominated the scene in 2022, having won the Superdome 23: Colombia off-season event.

In the VCT Americas Stage 1, though, Leaviatan lost their first game in an upset to Cloud9 and had to face Sentinels next. Sentinels recently won the VCT Masters Madrid and defeated Leviatán during the VCT Americas Kickoff tournament.

On the first map of Lotus, while playing Raze, aspas did the impossible and broke the record for the most kills on a single map. He secured a total of 47 kills against Sentinels with seven first kills to his name, ending the map with a KDA of 47/19/6. If we look at his duels, he secured ten or more kills against the likes of seasoned veterans like TenZ, johnqt, and zekken. Leviatán won the series with a score of 2-0 against Sentinels.

Only time will tell if another duelist can break the record and secure half a century of kills on a given map.

The Previous VCT Record For Most Kills On A Single Map

The previous record was held by the Japanese Ace Yuma “Dep” Hisamoto from Zeta Division. During the LCQ of the VCT Pacific 2023, Dep secured 42 kills while playing the agent Sova against Rex Regum Qeon. The match was a 90-minute-long affair between the two teams on Ascent and had a total of 40 rounds played between the two teams.
