We have released LS Tucker Addington
— Washington Commanders (@Commanders) April 15, 2024
There is no long snapper competition this summer as the Commanders announce the release of Tucker Addington. He replaced Camaron Cheeseman last season.
Washington signed Tyler Ott this off-season.

NFL league office is losing a good one. If you talk to people at team level, Dave is someone everyone trusts. Smart outside-the-box hire by @Commanders. This is a franchise that suddenly “gets it”. https://t.co/IKujjLyASo

While Gardi brings a lot of talent to the team, the big thing he brings is a much better relationship with the NFL itself. Remember how it seemed the team never got a break from the league office? Gardi was senior vice president of football operations for the NFL the last 10… https://t.co/O1Dnh7tose
— Dave Scarangella (@DaveScarangella) April 15, 2024
An interesting tidbit: Gardi is expected to be on the headset during games. His emphasis in season will be on the coaching side. https://t.co/Q8wJ4sTotI
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) April 15, 2024
The Commanders announced today they hired Dave Gardi as the team’s senior vice president of football initiatives.
His resume is nuts. 21 years in the league office doing football operations (rules, etc) after time working on cap, etc. Son of a coach. Played QB at Brown.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) April 15, 2024
The release says he’ll help handle in game strategy and more. Sounds like he’s your guy in the booth on timeouts, reviews, etc.
Which is pretty great. Bc he helped write a bunch of those rules! Will also help the front office.

This is what happens when you have a real rich owner, not a fake rich owner.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) April 15, 2024
Dave is the son of former @HofstraPride coach Joe Gardi. The same Joe Gardi who gave Dan Quinn his first big opportunity in coaching when DQ became DC in Hempstead. Now Gardi and Quinn will work together in Washington. https://t.co/KX8g2bHLJL
— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) April 15, 2024
Gardi has been with the NFL for 21 years, starting as a league counsel (he went to Brown and got his JD from Hofstra) and most recently serving as SVP of football operations. He’s the “gatekeeper of league policies and procedures that control competitive balance.”
