ALGS: OpTic Gaming Drops Team, Team Liquid Picks One Up

on

In a recent shake-up to the Apex Legends Global Series scene, one major organisation has stepped back but another might be making their way back in. Recently, OpTic Gaming confirmed that its three-man roster had been dropped. The organisation made no indication as to whether it would be seeking a replacement team or if it would be pulling out of the ALGS altogether. On the other hand, a reference surfaced suggesting that Team Liquid would be making its way back into the ecosystem.

In December 2022, Team Liquid abandoned the Apex Legends esports space. This was reportedly due to decisions that ’caused (the) team to get less coverage than they deserved’. On the ALGS Battlfy page, it was recently discovered that the former Luminosity roster now sits under the Team Liquid banner. It could be an admin error, or it could be the first indication that Team Liquid is shaping up to break back into the Apex Legends Global Series.

OpTic Gaming recently announced the departure of Dropped, SkittleCakes, and Knoqd, leaving the organisation without a roster in the ALGS. That means that these world-class players are free to pursue other options elsewhere, but it puts into question the status of OpTic Gaming in the ALGS. In recent months, OpTic Gaming has done well in the space, so the sudden change comes as quite a surprise to fans worldwide.

Elsewhere, Team Liquid’s potential resurgence has sent waves of excitement through the community. It’s worth stressing that the listing on Battlfy isn’t a confirmation at all, but it’s the first nod we’ve seen in more than a year of the team’s intention to break back into the Apex Legends Global Series. If accurate, this would see Team Liquid represented by YanYa, Neazul, and Jaguares, an all-Mexican roster with various in-game capabilities.

There have been plenty of issues in the ALGS space of late, including a massive hack that shook a regional final and brought the competition to its knees. Before that, Electronic Arts made redundancies that hit Respawn Entertainment, developer of Apex Legends.
