AEW announces Swerve Strickland’s first match as world champion

And a possible hint for Will Ospreay?

After winning the AEW World Championship, Swerve Strickland is now the face of the franchise.

Swerve won’t have time to rest. AEW already announced his first match as world champion. The mogul will wrestle Kyle Fletcher in a title eliminator on this week’s Dynamite for April 24. That stipulation means that the Aussie can earn a shot a gold if he wins on Wednesday night.

Fletcher is an interesting choice for an opponent. The ROH TV champion is exciting in the ring, and he’ll likely become a notch on Swerve’s belt. What’s more intriguing is what comes next for Swerve. He’ll need a challenger at Double or Nothing on May 26. Fletcher’s association with the Callis Family could be a hint for Will Ospreay. The Aerial Assassin is fresh off victory over Bryan Danielson. And frankly, he deserves a world title shot based on his undefeated record so far this year in AEW. It wouldn’t be a bad way to boost Swerve by beating Ospreay clean then running back the rematch at All In in London. If AEW is interested in creating a career rivalry between the two, Swerve earning the win in round one would be a good start.
