Paolo Bertolucci: “Holger Rune is a spoiled child”

on

Nobody liked the unsportsmanlike gesture of Holger Rune during the match played at the Mutua Madrid Open against the home player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Dane once again made headlines with certainly avoidable behavior, which inflamed the crowd.

From that point of the match onwards, in fact, the spectators filled the talented 20-year-old with boos and supported the Iberian, able to bring home the victory after a battle of over three hours at the tie-break in the third.

What exactly happened? On a ball called in, Davidovich challenged the decision of the Foxtenn technology system and invited the chair umpire to see for himself. By changing sides, Rune wanted to erase all traces of that sign, receiving only objections from the crowd.

Paolo Bertolucci, engaged in commentary on the Sky Sport channels, strongly criticized the gesture of the Dane. Here are the words of the former Italian tennis player, who heavily attacked Holger.

“He behaves like a spoiled child, now he has called the physiotherapist because, not knowing what to do to annoy him, he gets his wrist bandaged. I would like to understand how it is possible that these things can be allowed,” he commented, expressing all his opposition to the behavior of the winner of the Paris-Bercy Master 1000.

Holger Rune is still in the media storm

After what happened at the end of the first set, the player also received a warning from referee Carlos Bernardes, who advised him: “I’ll just tell you one thing tonight. As I told you in Monte-Carlo, there are situations you can’t handle if you act like this. If you think about playing tennis, they stop, otherwise they won’t let you play.”

Not a new story with the Dane as the protagonist, given that a similar case happened in the Principality of Monaco during the match against the Italian Jannik Sinner.

On that occasion Rune was able to beat the opponent and the objections of the public. This time however Davidovich Fokina, pushed by the charge of the Spanish fans, got the victory and eliminated the seed number 6 of the draw.
