250 QUALIFYING RESULTS // 2024 ANAHEIM 2 SUPERCROSS

The 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross is set to be an exciting one because it’s the first Triple Crown race of the year, it’s also the second dry race of the year, after two tough weekends in the mud at San Francisco and San Diego. After three rounds, Jordon Smith has proved to be the most consistent rider, scoring a second at the opener, a win at San Francisco and a third in San Diego, giving him the red plate and the 250SX West points lead, with an 8-point gap on Levi Kitchen and a 10-point gap on Garrett Marchbanks, who nearly won the 250SX Main Event last weekend. Garrett lost the lead when a lap rider blocked his line and almost went down, causing Garrett to run into the back of him and almost fall himself.

Fast forward to Anaheim 2, we’ve finally got a dry race, but now the pressure is on for the riders to qualify in the top 18 to make it straight into the night show with the three Main Event format. The riders who don’t make the top 18 are sent to the LCQ to race for the final four spots on the gate.

250 GROUP A QUALIFYING SESSION 1 RESULTS

RJ Hampshire 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross Practice-9513RJ Hampshire was fastest in the first qualifying session, picking up where he left off last time we were at Anaheim three weeks ago, in first.

Early in the first qualifying practice, it was Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen up front on times. Levi is the only representative for Pro Circuit Kawasaki after his teammate, Max Vohland, dislocated his hip at the practice crash after San Francisco. The track is proving to be technical today at Anaheim 2, with ruts in between the jumps, and a turning roller corner that leads into one of the two whoop sections. With three minutes to go, Kitchen still held the best time with Shimoda and Hampshire in tow. Points leader, Jordon Smith, was fourth quickest with two minutes on the clock, and then he had a small tip-over in the corner after the first whoop section. In one sense, it’s good to push the track to its limits and have small crashes in qualifying, because you find the limit of the track for the night show. But, in another sense, it’s not good for your confidence or health to take dirt diggers. With under one minute left to go, RJ Hampshire laid down a heater and scored the quickest time.

Nate Thrasher 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross Practice-8335Nate Thrasher won at San Diego last weekend, but a DNF at the opener and an 18th at San Francisco put a dent in his Championship hopes. He is 37 points behind his teammate, Jordon Smith.

Levi Kitchen 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross Practice-9469 Levi Kitchen is second in points coming into Anaheim 2.

Phil Nicoletti 2024 Anaheim 2 Supercross Practice-8391Phil Nicoletti has had a wild season so far. A DNS at Anaheim 1, due to a bike issue, a 4th place at San Francisco in the mud, and then a DNF at San Diego after having transmission issues.
