With the 30th overall pick in the 2024 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Baltimore Ravens GM LancGuy selects …

Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

You would assume a team like the Baltimore Ravens, who last year had the best regular season record in the NFL and were only a tough loss in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs from reaching the Super Bowl, would have few needs and the luxury of picking the best player available. Instead, the Ravens tied the Minnesota Vikings by having the most players lost this offseason: 15. These losses created some big holes in the Ravens’ starting lineup.

Some player exists were addressed in Free Agency. While DE Jadeveon Clowney signed a $20 million contract with the Panthers, they signed edge rusher Kyle Van Noy. Similarly, while the Ravens lost RB Gus Edwards to the Chargers, they signed RB Derrick Henry.

The Ravens’ biggest losses that have not been addressed are three starters on the offensive line, right tackle Morgan Moses was traded to the New York Jets and guards Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson signed elsewhere. Additionally, our old friend Ronald Darby signed with the Jaguars, creating an opening at one CB spot.

With the Ravens traditionally being a run first team and Lamar Jackson’s health being essential to their success, one struggles to fathom given the loss of three offensive linemen that their first pick will be anything other than a big body to make holes for Derrick Henry and keep Jackson upright.

Furthermore, with Kool-Aid McKinstry just being picked by the Lions, the next CB on most boards would be a bit of a reach here.

This offensive line draft class has good news and bad news for the Ravens. While the Ravens have some OT options on the roster, including Daniel Faalele and Patrick Mekari on this year’s squad and the free agent addition of Josh Jones, options to replace the departed guards appear limited. With the solid need for an interior lineman and drafting 30th, where the premier offensive tackles have already been drafted but to where a stud interior lineman may fall, one might project an interior lineman to the Ravens. In that bad news for the Ravens, only Jackson Powers-Johnson, who the Eagles drafted in this mock, has a first-round grade. The only possible consideration might be Zach Frazier, the Center from West Virginia.

Now the good news for the Ravens is that draft analysts see as many as 8 offensive tackles having first round grades. The two best available options are Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma and Jordan Morgan from Arizona.

Here’s a contrast provided by the AI search engine Perplexity:

Guyton is a massive, 6’8” 328-pound tackle who displays impressive athleticism and power for his size. He is an excellent pass protector, with the length and footwork to neutralize speed rushers. Guyton’s size and explosiveness also make him an effective run blocker who can overwhelm defenders at the point of attack. However, he is inconsistent at times and needs to play with more physicality and aggression. There are also some concerns about his maturity and character that could impact his draft stock.

In contrast, the 6’5” 312-pound Jordan Morgan is more of a technician at offensive tackle. He has refined pass blocking technique, sound footwork, and the ability to mirror edge rushers. Morgan is also praised for his effort, intelligence, and versatility to potentially play guard or tackle. The main concerns with Morgan are his shorter than ideal arm length, which can limit him in the run game, and his average overall strength compared to elite NFL tackles.

The Ravens with their experienced coaching staff and strong player culture, feel they can mitigate any maturity and character issues, so lean into the better athlete with more upside by selecting Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma. With Ronnie Stanley installed as the left tackle and free agent Josh Jones available as a LT backup should Stanley frequent injury history continue, the Ravens are also attracted to Guyton’s experience on the right side.

Mockdraftable’s spider chart and measurements gives you a feel for Guyton’s huge size and athleticism:

The Ravens feel fortunate to grab a prospect with this high level of talent and athleticism who fits a need this late in the first round!
