With the 28th overall pick in the 2024 Bleeding Green Nation community mock draft, Buffalo Bills GM Leo Bedio selects …

Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

With the 28th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas.

The Bills come into the draft with a limited Josh Allen window, and a few holes to fill:

Center/Guard:

After the release of Mitch Morse, the Bills best option at present is to shift Connor McGovern to center and find a new guard. They’d be better suited to draft a plug and play center and keep McGovern where he is. With the only 1st round option, Jackson Powers-Johnson of Oregon already drafted by the Eagles, this will have to be (and should be done easily enough) solved with a later pick. The Bills have 10 picks in the draft, including two 4ts and three 5’s, so they should be able to trade up a little bit if they need to.

Safety:

Taylor Rapp has been re-signed, but Jordan Poyer is gone to Miami and Micah Hyde is not under contract and mulling retirement. But there are no remaining safeties worthy of a late round 1 pick. No need to reach here, they can grab one in the 2nd.

Edge:

The team did bring back A.J. Epenesa on a 2-year deal, but Von Miller was pretty much a non-factor last year, and seems to be cooked. They also added Casey Toohill (meh). But the position clearly needs to be addressed. Chop Robinson is an option, but he is a project and the Bills need help now to keep the window open.

Defensive Tackle:

This is more of a depth need, certainly not one worthy of a day one pick.

Which brings us to the teams HUGE need, and one which CAN be addressed on Day 1…

Wide Receiver:

The Bills have a franchise quarterback in his prime, a decent RB room (though they could stand to add one in a later round), and a previous first round pick at TE. What they DON’T have is a stud wide receiver for Josh Allen to throw to, after losing Gabe Davis in Free Agency and trading Stephon Diggs. If they want to continue to take advantage of the Josh Allen window and stay relevant, they desperately need to get him some new weapons.

Currently, their wide receivers room looks like this:

Khalif Shakir

Curtis Samuel

Mack Hollins

Justin Shorter

Andy Isabella

KJ Hamler

Ummm….no. (Yuck!)

Enter Adonai Mitchell. The cure for what ails them, and a potential stud receiver on a rookie contract.

At 6’ 2” and 205 lbs., Mitchell has the size, speed, and ball skills to become a very good NFL receiver. He can beat press coverage and has the speed to take the fight to the third level. While he’s not always a natural hands-catcher, his sticky hands and ability to snare balls outside his frame is top-notch. His route running currently lacks focus and consistency, but his agility and burst out of breaks is not an issue. Mitchell is tough after the catch and he has the ability to thrive on all three levels. He does have to work on route consistency and giving maximum effort on every route, especially when the ball is not coming his way. But those things can be coached into him. Otherwise, he has all the requisite tools to be a WR1 in the NFL, and he is the best player available at #28.

Problem solved.
