Wyndham Clark stood out with an extraordinary third round, taking the lead at the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM. The American golfer made history on one of the most iconic courses on the entire PGA Tour, recovering twenty-two positions and reaching the top with a total score of -17. Following him are two Europeans: the Swede Ludvig Aberg with a score of -16 and one shot behind the Transalpine Matthieu Pavon, who has shown exceptional golf in recent weeks.

The reigning US Open champion had a memorable Saturday, walking off the 18th green with a 60-shot, impressive -12 round. Clark came very close to a putt for 59 on the last par 5, coming up just inches short of achieving this historic achievement on the American circuit. Throughout the day, Clark demonstrated extraordinary accuracy, with just one miss, a bogey on the 12th hole, and nine birdies and two eagles, delivering an exceptional performance.
Ludvig Aberg tried to keep up with Clark, showing remarkable consistency, but with some putting difficulties. The Swede had already been part of the leading trio after 36 holes and ended the “moving day” with a -5, taking him to a total of -16 for the tournament. Aberg narrowly missed a long-range putt for eagle on 18, but a birdie put him in close contact with Clark, one shot clear of Frenchman Matthieu Pavon, who showed he was in great form after the last weeks of the game.
In fourth place with a score of -14, in the second event of the season, we find the American Mark Hubbard, who recorded an excellent third round in 65 strokes, and the Belgian Thomas Detry, who slowed down compared to the previous day, scoring four birdies and a bogey. In joint sixth position with a score of -13 is a quartet of great quality, including the Australian Jason Day, who shot an incredible 63, the second best round of the day, but overshadowed by Clark’s extraordinary performance.
The weather will play a key role in the final round of the course on California’s Monterey Peninsula. The rain started to fall during the third lap and is expected to be heavy at least throughout the night at Pebble Beach, on an already very wet field. Very strong gusts of wind are also expected, which could make it difficult to play golf. The PGA Tour has three options: play regularly on Sunday, perhaps postponing the starts, move everything to Monday (very difficult) or close the tournament with 54 holes, crowning Clark as the winner after three rounds, an unprecedented event in the history of signature events.
