Goran Ivanisevic sounds off on ‘stupid talk’ amid Novak Djokovic’s 2024 struggles

on

Goran Ivanisevic thinks it is plain stupid to think that Novak Djokovic is in some kind of panic mode because his start to the season hasn’t gone as planned.

Djokovic, who recently split with Ivanisevic after six years of working together, is just 11-4 so far in 2024 and he hasn’t yet won any titles.

After returning from Australia without a title won and then losing early in Indian Wells, Djokovic looked better in Monte Carlo but his run still ended with a surprise semifinal defeat to Casper Ruud. Following his defeat to Ruud, Djokovic decided to skip the ongoing Madrid Masters and instead focus on practice and return to action at the Rome Masters.

But some think that Djokovic is a bit lost and that he is done winning and maybe panicking at the moment.

Ivanisevic slams ‘stupid talk’ regarding Djokovic’s season

“It’s stupid to even talk about panic. In 2022 he also won his first title of the year in Rome. Panic what? He is the best in the world, he is not 50th on the ATP list,” Ivanisevic told Sportal.

“Everything depends only on him and on which Novak appears on the court. If the right, focused one appears, then on any surface to play, everyone can pack up and go home. And if the other one appears, then it’s a different story. We know what his goals are, and I think he will be ready for the Olympics.”

When Djokovic returns to action in Rome, he will be playing at a place where he has had success throughout his career. In Rome, Djokovic is a 12-time finalist and a six-time champion.

Although Djokovic hasn’t been his usual self over the last few months, he will still enter Rome as one of the favorites for title. But this time, winning Rome would be absolutely massive for Djokovic considering his current situation.
