What was in the bag for Jordan Gumberg’s DP World Tour breakthrough?

on

Jordan Gumberg came through with a playoff win at St Francis Links to win the SDC Championship and radically change his plans for this term.

His bag is a relatively straightforward one for a young professional.

The clubs he uses are all reasonably new and cutting edge and he doesn’t make any left-field calls.

Gumberg is still using last season’s Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond S Driver in a 9-degree head and has not yet transitioned to the Paradym Ai Smoke series driver.

The Triple Diamond S is a tour-only model with a somewhat different shape and spin characteristics than the original Triple Diamond.

Gumberg has moved on to the current season’s model with his 3-wood, opting to switch to the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max in 15 degrees.

Gumberg bridges the gap between fairway woods and hybrids with the Titleist U505, one of the greatest utility irons on the market which shows just why some professionals don’t use a hybrid at all.

Gumberg selects a combination set of irons. He prefers the Callaway Apex CBs for his 4, 5, and 6 irons before switching to the Callaway Apex MBs for his 7-10 iron.

Gumberg believes in Bob Vokey when his short game is on the line, using two Titleist Vokey SM9 wedges (50-12F and 54-10S) and a Vokey Wedgeworks prototype 60-T grind.

When he gets in close Gumberg turns to a broom handle version of the Odyssey 2-Ball Ten putter.

He has had to alter his season’s plans after securing more DP World Tour dates with his playoff win in South Africa.

“We were spending all night last night changing travel plans, cancelling hotels, booking hotels, flights… I had flights booked all the way through the Challenge Tour season,” Gumberg told the DP World Tour.

“That was my plan at the beginning of the year to play full time there and pick and choose some events on this Tour that we get into.

“Now that I am full time here, everything has changed. We are still wrapping our heads around it.”
