Victoria Azarenka’s ex Redfoo comes to her Miami match… (pettily) sits in rival box

on

Victoria Azarenka and Redfoo met again on the same court but this time the American singer wasn’t sitting in the box of his ex-girlfriend but in the box of the Belarusian’s opponent in Miami, Peyton Stearns.

On Thursday evening, former world No. 1 Azarenka was playing against home favorite American Sterns in the Miami second round. When the match started, it didn’t take long before the cameras caught Redfoo following the match from the stands.

Redfoo – whose real name is Stefan Gordy and who was famously the frontman of the LMFAO group – used to regularly watch WTA matches a decade ago and he was frequently seen in Azarenka’s box during Grand Slams. Back then, Redfoo was dating Azarenka as their relationship started in 2012 before ending two years later in 2014 June.

In Miami, Redfoo again watched an Azarenka match from the stands but this time he wasn’t supporting the Belarusian. Instead, Redfoo was following the match from Stearns’ box and rooting for the American.

Stearns, ranked at No. 63 in the world, competed extremely well against Azarenka but ultimately fell just short as the two-time Grand Slam champion escaped with a 7-5 3-6 6-4 win and got the last laugh after two hours and 46 minutes of play.

Why Azarenka and Redfoo split?

When Azarenka and Redfoo started dating, the Belarusian was 22 and coming off her first Grand Slam win at the 2012 Australian Open and reaching the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in her career. On the other side, Redfoo’s LMFAO group was gaining worldwide popularity after the release of the Sorry for Party Rocking album in 2011.

With that being said, Azarenka and Redfoo’s relationship was drawing attention and they seemed to be a genuinely happy couple as the singer would come to watch and support his ex-girlfriend whenever he had a chance. But then in 2014 – after certain rumors suggested that the engagement could be coming between the two – their relationship took a major turn as the things between Azarenka and Redfoo ended.

At the time, Redfoo suggested that their demanding schedules played a big role in their decision to go their separate ways.

“We both had strong careers and we both want to support each other. It was tough,” Redfoo told the Daily Telegraph after the breakup with Azarenka.

“I want to cryogenically freeze the love, put it in a lab, and come back to it when everything is organized and I can appoint another captain of the ship.”

What Azarenka revealed about her heartbreak following the Redfoo split?

Shortly after splitting with Redfoo, Azarenka suffered a shock Wimbledon second-round loss to Bojana Jovanovski, while she made the quarterfinals at the US Open and Montreal. When the 2015 season started, Azarenka made the Australian Open round-of-16 but couldn’t go further than that.

Then in an with The New York Times, Azarenka opened up about the split with Redfoo and admitted that she was left heartbroken and when she and the American singer called it quits on their relationship. At the time, Azarenka also revealed that it took her time before she realized that she was battling depression.

“I did get my heart broken; I really did. I’m over it, but it was broken. And I’m not afraid to admit that it was, but it’s life,” Azarenka told The New York Times in 2015.

“I think the toughest part is to admit that you weren’t OK Somebody asked me at one stage, ‘Are you depressed?’ And I said: ‘Are you kidding me? I’m not depressed.’

“But you know what? I was. I was, but I just didn’t realize it, because all these things happen, and you just don’t know how to deal with emotions.”

Around the time when Azarenka was dating Redfoo, Caroline Wozniacki was also in a relationship with a celebrity as she was dating golf superstar Rory Mcllroy. In 2014, Mcllroy and Wozniacki were engaged and the golf superstar even sent wedding invites to his family and friends just before changing his mind and deciding to call off their engagement and split with the Danish tennis star.

Later, Mcllroy – who was 25 at the time – confessed that he wasn’t ready for married life and that’s why the things with Wozniacki ended the way they did.

In the same interview from 2015, Azarenka revealed that she and Wozniacki used to spent time together in 2014 and comfort each other after painful breakups.

‘We were both in Monaco when her situation happened and everything with me happened, and we were just having dinner and crying on each other’s shoulders,” Azarenka said at the time.

For Azarenka, beating Stearns in front of Redfoo was certainly a victory in itself and a personal satisfaction.
