Toni Nadal shares major hint regarding Rafael Nadal’s Australian Open participation

Toni Nadal says he has seen how Rafael Nadal trains and expects his nephew to be ready to compete at the Australian Open. Nadal, who hasn’t played since this year’s Australian Open, is working on being ready for the start of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery on his psoas muscle in June. During an interview with Onda Cero, Uncle Toni was asked when he expects to see his nephew on the courts again. “But I believe that for the Australian Open, my nephew should be in good condition to compete, all going well, because I have seen him train. Every day he is improving a bit. It’s true that it has been a very long-term injury, but well, that’s how it is,” Toni Nadal told Onda Cero.

Toni Nadal expects his nephew to be at the Australian Open

Last month, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley claimed that Nadal confirmed to him that he would play at Melbourne Park in 2024. Tiley’s announcement quickly went viral and it prompted a reaction from Nadal’s team. Firstly, Nadal’s PR denied that the Spaniard’s Australian Open participation was set in stone. Nadal himself then took to X, where he acknowledged that he is working on playing at the Australian Open but that there are no guarantees. Later, Nadal also addressed the issue during an event in Madrid, where he once again repeated that he is targeting to play in January but that there are no guarantees. “My first realistic option to be back on the professional court would be January in Australia. But right now, I really can’t confirm something I don’t know. Nothing has changed in the last few weeks except for the fact that I’m training a bit more than before, which is an accomplishment for me and my mental health,” Nadal recently said during an event in Madrid.
