Thanasi Kokkinakis: I’d like to make a deep Grand Slam run, break into top-50

Thanasi Kokkinakis reveals he is working hard on getting himself in great shape as he is determined to reach new heights in 2023.

This year, Kokkinakis captured his first ATP title at the Adelaide International.

Kokkinakis, who started the 2022 season ranked at No 171, finished the year ranked at 93 in the world.

In 2023, Kokkinakis will be hoping to make his first deep Grand Slam singles run.

Kokkinakis’ best Grand Slam run came at the 2015 French Open, when he made the third round.

Kokkinakis: I’d like to make a deep Grand Slam run

“You’ve just got to be in really good shape and that’s what I’m working hard on at the moment, getting in real good nick. Then, whatever happens, happens – but definitely making a deep run at a slam would be a goal. Especially when you play some of these guys in events and you either beat them or you’re like, ‘Hang on, I’m not that far off’, and you see them make really deep runs. You’ve just got to be consistent physically and mentally and be ready to play but it’s definitely there if I want it,” Kokkinakis told The Australian Associated Press.

Kokkinakis started the 2022 season by reaching the Adelaide 1 semifinal.

The following week, Kokkinakis defeated Arthur Rinderknech in the Adelaide 2 final to win his first title.

Then, Kokkinakis became a Grand Slam champion at Melbourne Park after he and Nick Kyrgios won the Australian Open men’s doubles title.

“(This was) my best year on tour, so I’m stoked. I had some really good wins. It’s just about being consistent and bringing my best effort every time I go out there and play. The next goal for me is top 50 and then go on from there,” Kokkinakis revealed.

It remains to be seen if Kyrgios can make his first deep Grand Slam singles run in 2023 and also break into the top-50 for the first time in his career.
