Tarkov Arena Gets an Updated Roadmap From Battlestate Games

on

Battlestate Games has released an updated roadmap for Tarkov Arena, the session-based multiplayer shooter set in the Escape from Tarkov universe. In December 2023, Tarkov Arena was released to a mixed reception, with player numbers ultimately dwindling a lot faster than ‘BSG’ expected. It has remained afloat, though – and more players are trying their chances with the game as it receives more updates and boasts better levels of stability.

Today, Battlestate Games posted a short update to the existing roadmap, outlining what’s coming with the next three major updates for Tarkov Arena. There were no dates confirmed for these updates, but they can be inferred from context, provided the game remains aligned with Escape from Tarkov.

In the update posted online, the next three updates were outlined.

0.1.7.0 – Last Hero

In Last Hero, players will get access to a new game mode of the same name. There will also be adjustments made to clean up crew behaviour, balancing adjustments made to presets, and bullet penetration – especially on limbs – will be tweaked. It’s the smallest update of the three, but it’s still bringing things that people actively want.

0.1.8.0 – Synchronisation with EFT Profile

This update is expected to land with the ‘summer wipe’ in Escape from Tarkov. This will be the next Tarkov wipe and it’ll reset the game to its base state – and Tarkov Arena should follow suit. It’s expected that this update will drop at the same time, allowing players to finally synchronise their progress between the two games. There are also changes coming in this update to the game’s anti-cheat system, as well as the implementation of daily quests, giving players more reason to log in and get involved.

0.2.0.0 – Content Patch

As the largest update in the trio, the Content Patch release will introduce a slew of things players have been requesting since the game launched. This includes fully custom preset creation (within limits), a new map, a new asymmetrical mode (attack-defence), and vast swathes of technical and functional improvements. There will be the usual array of quality-of-life tweaks applied, also.

Is Tarkov Arena Still Alive?

Escape from Tarkov Arena suffered immeasurably from a rapidly declining player base just months after it was released. There are several reasons for that, but a lot of it boils down to the overall stability of the game and various elements like hit registration, weapon and armour mechanics, and server connectivity. Many content consumers admitted that there’s almost nothing entertaining about watching Tarkov Arena, and most viewers would rather watch Escape from Tarkov, the extraction shooter.

That of course threatens the Tarkov Arena esports scene. In December, to coincide with the release of the game, Battlestate Games hosted the first official Tarkov Arena esports tournament in Germany, but since then, nothing has been mentioned about a follow-up event.
