While competing on day one of the 2023 Swim Open Stockholm, Olympic champion Sarah Sjostrom crushed a ridiculous 50m fly time of 25.04 to take the gold.
After establishing herself as the top-seeded swimmer of the morning with a casual heats swim of 25.63, Sjostrom engaged an entirely other gear to fire off a time just .11 outside of her gold medal-winning performance at last year’s World Championships.
There in Budapest, Sjostrom clocked 24.95 to get the job done for gold.
Entering this competition, 29-year-old Sjostrom already ranked as the top performer in the world this season, courtesy of her 25.25 posted last month in France. Her 25.04 outing here simply further separates the icon from the rest of the world, with the next-closest competitor thus far this season represented by China’s Zhang Yufei‘s time of 25.32 also from last month.
