A look at NFL money spending over 3-season period
The Las Vegas Raiders have spent some large contracts in recent years.
They gave wide receiver Davante Adams a huge deal two years ago after trading for him and they extended the contract of star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby in addition to others.
Yet, a recent study by NFL salary-cap analyst Jack Duffin shows the Raiders have fallen just under the league over in the 2021-23 NFL seasons combined. Here is the chart:
FACT: Cowboys are the 30th in spending & spent $223.1m less than the #Browns
OPINION: “We spend max, max money year in and year out. All 32 can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch,” executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. https://t.co/8pKxb4C39L pic.twitter.com/Xgd6RCtTBU

The chart shows the Raiders (who made the playoffs once during the three-season period with no post-season victories) spent over the league average twice barely. So, Las Vegas has been pretty steady in its spending.
Yes, other teams have spent more cash, but the Raiders haven’t been overly stingy.
Of course, in 2024, they gave out a huge deal to free-agent defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, which they hope will help them take the next step. Still, the Raiders are currently near the bottom of the league in spending for the 2024 season so far.
The Browns lead the NFL with $326M followed by the Eagles, 49ers, Texans (!), and Jaguars.
At the bottom are the Cowboys with $189M. The Chargers, Packers, Lions and Raiders are the other four at the bottom.
