Sevilla wins on the wire against Cadiz and leaves the relegation zone

on

Duel of dunce this Saturday evening at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium. Respectively 19th and 18th in La Liga, Sevilla and Cadiz clashed on behalf of the 18th day of La Liga. Despite unchallenged possession (77%), the Sevillians could not really put Jeremias Ledesma in danger in the first period. The locals thought they had found the fault on their first opportunity, but Erik Lamela’s goal was canceled by the VAR (45th + 2).

In the second half, the game always restarted in the same monotonous tone. If the show was not on the lawn, Jorge Sampaoli was responsible for animating the evening by collecting a red card for protest (59th). More dangerous than during the first 45 minutes, the Sevillistas were close in quick succession to making the visitors abdicate, but the Andalusian rearguard and Ledesma did not give in (68th, 69th). The match came to life (finally) in the final minutes with a penalty obtained by Jorge Sampaoli’s men. A golden opportunity that Ivan Rakitic did not miss (1-0, 88th). With this victory, Sevilla FC is relaunching in the race to maintain and goes back to 14th place. For its part, Cadiz remains in the red zone (19th) and puts an end to its series of three games without defeat.
