Drew McIntyre on his new WWE deal, his injury and, of course, CM Punk

Drew McIntyre was one of the guests on The Pat McAfee Show today (May 1), and the outspoken Scotsman had plenty to say to McAfee and the regular crew of the Raw announcer’s daily ESPN/YouTube sports talk show.

He talked about his new contract with WWE, just announced by TKO Board member Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson last weekend. McIntyre’s new deal ended a year of speculation and rumor about his next move, but the three-time WWE World champ says he was never going to sign elsewhere:

“[WWE’s] making billion dollar deals left and right. We’ve got the billion-dollar man Nick Khan closing all these deals for us, left and right. At the top, there is a lot of things going on, a lot of opportunities if you get to the top. And I’ve been to the top and whatever people are trying to do to stop me from getting to the top, it’s not going to happen cause I know this industry too well. I’ll figure out backstage, if you try to politic your way ahead of me, I’ll just beat you down and I’ll get myself ahead of you. Cause I know how this game works, and I’m too big and wise — and that’s why I’m staying with WWE for the foreseeable future.

“I wasn’t gonna go anywhere, if anybody out there who was unsure, reading those internet rumors or whatever. We were just in a place where I had to get things right for my family. I got with Nick Khan, I got with Triple H, they were so understanding. We got things right for the future. Drew McIntyre was never going to go away from WWE. And it’s awesome that The Rock made the announcement. It’s the first thing he’s done for anybody on our roster, that Drew McIntyre’s re-signed with WWE.”

He also addressed the injury he’s been dealing with since WrestleMania. McIntyre says it’s a “fractured elbow” that he blames CM Punk for, of course:

“You know what happened at ‘Mania when [Punk] attacked me from behind and swept my legs out? He fractured my elbow. Broken bones in it. You know what I did the next day? I wrestled in a four-way match, and I would have won if it wasn’t for CM Punk.“

I’ve been taping up every week. I did a European tour where I wrestled Jey Uso every single night. [Punk]’s sitting on his couch, collecting his big paycheck, thinking he can kiss corporate arse and keep cashing those checks while I’m putting in work. Who is the bad guy? Who is the delusional one? Who is the hypocrite?”

McIntyre didn’t miss any opportunity to run down his nemesis Punk during the interview, although he did turn down a suggestion that he should use the sword Johnson sent him after he signed his new deal to behead the Straight-Edge Chicagoan.

It was during Drew’s response to that that he described what kind of troll he is, saying…

“I’ll tear you apart on social media, then I’ll step from behind the keyboard, I’ll tear you apart physically. Then if I wasn’t married, I’d take your girl too. That’s the kind of troll I am.”

But after that was shared around as “MCINTYRE SAYS HE’LL TAKE AJ LEE FROM CM PUNK”, McIntyre briefly broke character, tweeting and deleting:

It’s a general statement, not specific. Even when it comes to Punk there’s some lines you don’t cross.

That may cost Drew in the race for “hater of the year”, but we’re sure he’ll do something to reestablish his lead before too long.
