Seth Rollins Downplays CM Punk Feud; Comments On Being Booed, Social Media, Red Light Fiend Matches, More

Seth Rollins was the guest on tonight’s WWE Backstage and had a few interesting things to say regarding CM Punk, the fans booing him, social media, the red light in The Fiend matches, his relationship with Becky Lynch being brought on air, and more. Below are some quotes from his appearance.

Thoughts on CM Punk:

To be honest with you, I’m here, he is not. I’m not shocked about that. I think I’ve exhausted all my energy on the subject. I just don’t think it’s going anywhere. I’m not shocked that he’s not here. So I think it’s time to maybe move on to something that matters. I wish he was here. I wish we could have a face-to-face but it’s not in the cards. So let’s talk about something that matters.

On the fans booing him:

I do live events all over the world and I’m not getting booed everywhere, it’s not happening. There’s a small contingent of our audience that’s very vocal on social media. But you hear that and you see that and it affects you. I am a passionate guy. I love this business, this is my life. When I put so much into it and get disrespected I am going to push back. I’m not gonna be like John Cena and put motivational quotes on Twitter or be like Roman and just hang back. To each their own.

The cool thing to do is to hate me. The cool thing to do is to hate the guy that’s on top. Roman before me. He had that problem as well if you wanna call it a problem. Cena was the same thing. He might have pioneered the whole thing. Bret Hart all the way into the 90’s, the same thing.

Social media:

It’s tough because it’s a double edged sword kind of thing. I think now that we are so reliant on social media, that is the go to. When you see talent that is frustrated, one of the first things they do is go to social media. Whether it’s trying to pave their own way or to complain or whatever. It can be used negatively or positively. What is bad press? If I’m not out there being cringe with my tweets, what do you guys have to talk about? What’s bad publicity when it comes to social media and Twitter? I don’t know.

The tipping point on the fans booing him:

The Sacramento crowd was so unhappy. They didn’t like what was going on in general. I was the guy out there to eat the brunt of that. The Fiend got out of there. I’m the guy that’s gotta sit out there with blood coming out of his mouth having to deal with those chants. That goes viral. People see that. And then it all comes back on me. It started there but it goes back to where I had a Twitter exchange with Will Ospreay. That turned people the wrong way. I don’t know if there is one thing that you can point to but I think Hell In A Cell was the tipping point.

The red light in The Fiend matches:

I didn’t know. I had no idea it was gonna stay on. It was part of his entrance and it just never turned off. It was a mess for me and very difficult to deal with. I for one am not a fan and I feel it effects my performance. I got sort of accustomed to doing it because we had a bunch of matches after that but it was super weird at first.

His relationship with Becky Lynch being brought into WWE TV:

If I could go back and keep it out of the story line I probably would have. When you put something out into the world you open yourself up and become vulnerable. You allowed judgment to come at you. When it’s just you out there you know when you are stinking it up and you take that criticism. But when it’s personal and it’s about your chemistry with the person that you love more than anybody in the world, it is hard to eat that. I don’t think we need to see it. We had hesitation going into it. We thought that if it was handled properly it would be kind of cool. I loved the match at Extreme Rules, I’ll say that. But it’s caused more problems than it’s solved I think.

Regarding the online Twitter romance between Dana Brooke and Batista:

After that I want to see the next chapter so bad.
