Seattle did indeed address the trenches, adding a big name for the defensive front
After months of waiting the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is underway, and while things went as expected for the first few picks, there’s been no shortage of surprises.
The Atlanta Falcons made the most shocking of the surprise moves so far, selecting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick, in spite of having signed Kirk Cousins as a free agent in March. That allowed the Chicago Bears to add Penix’s college teammate Rome Odunze, and for the Minnesota Vikings to select J.J. McCarthy with the tenth overall pick, making it five quarterbacks in the first ten selections.
This is just another indication of how quarterback-driven this league is, and that teams that don’t have a franchise quarterback will do whatever they need to in order to find their franchise quarterback.
As for the Seattle Seahawks, they came on the clock at No. 16 with plenty of needs to address, and crossed one of those off the list by selecting Byron Murphy out of Texas.
