Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- According to PW Insider, Bayley has signed a new deal with WWE. It’s believed to be for multiple years.
- Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer notes that Kenny Omega “is doing better, but he’s got a long road ahead of him” to return to AEW after being hospitalized with diverticulitis.
- NXT sources told Fightful Select that WWE was internally pleased with the way this week’s controversial injury angle with Ridge Holland and Ilja Dragunov was received by the crowd.
- Meltzer adds that NXT went ahead with that neck injury angle because “in a different era of wrestling, you would always do this.” However, Meltzer believes it produces the “wrong kind of heat” for today’s wrestling audience.
- Fightful also heard that WWE is planning for AOP to return to TV soon, and the idea is for them to be on the SmackDown roster.
- A recent study by Wrestlenomics indicates that AEW’s TV audience earns higher income and is better educated than the TV audience of any other wrestling show in the USA. However, the median household income ($61,500) for Dynamite’s viewing audience is still 17.5 less than the national household median income ($74,580).
- WWE SmackDown’s viewing audience ($47,900) comes in at 35.8% less than the national household median income, which helps explain why FOX didn’t renew its TV deal with WWE.
