GUNTHER addresses the rumor that he was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania

Earlier this year, the rumor mill indicated that WWE’s creative plans for Brock Lesnar on the road to WrestleMania 40 called for him to scare Pat McAfee in January’s Royal Rumble match, maul Dominik Mysterio at February’s Elimination Chamber event, and fight GUNTHER at WrestleMania in April.

None of those things ended up happening; the company reportedly removed Brock from all of its creative plans in the aftermath of Janel Grant’s sex trafficking lawsuit filed in January against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. Lesnar has not wrestled in WWE since he lost against Cody Rhodes last August at SummerSlam 2023; it’s not clear if or when he will return to WWE.

With all of that context in mind, Mail Sport asked GUNTHER to address the rumor that WWE planned to book him in a match against Lesnar at WrestleMania 40. The Ring General briefly acknowledged the rumor:

“Of course, I heard something about it. I always saw Brock as my final boss…I always get portrayed as that, as the NXT UK Champion, the Intercontinental Champion, I was like the final boss of that division. And Brock, for a long time, was the final boss of the whole company. So I always saw myself in my future to be in a similar position to him, and to be that you’ve got to get in the ring with that guy.”

It sounds like GUNTHER still wants to step in the ring with his Final Boss, but he has no idea if it can or will happen:

“We’ll see if there’s a chance for it to happen again. I’m more than up for it. How the situation is exactly right now, I’m really not that informed about it, to be honest. I think we had that one face off in the Royal Rumble, the reaction that was there and that was a confirmation for me.”
