Austin Jones spent most of his career at tailback but also has experience returning kickoffs.

Raheem Mostert led the league in rushing touchdowns and De’Von Achane finished his rookie season averaging nearly eight yards per carry — but Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins can always use more running backs.

The Draft Network’s Justin Melo reported that Miami is one of five teams meeting with USC tailback Austin Jones ahead of next week’s draft. The Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders are among the teams expressing interest in the redshirt senior.

Jones began his college career at Stanford before transferring to USC before the 2022 season. He rushed for 2,307 yards and added 92 receptions for 798 yards and a touchdown as a receiver throughout his five-year career.

Last season he appeared in 13 games with the Trojans, carrying the rock 85 times for 477 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Dolphins have five picks on Day 3, beginning with pick No. 158 in the fifth round, two sixth-round picks, and No. 241 in the seventh round.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler did not have Austin Jones selected in his recent seven-round mock draft. That said, he has the short-term burst required to thrive in McDaniel’s scheme and could be worthy of a late-round dart.
