It’s giving 2022 vibes — which is pretty exciting.
The Eagles have addressed most of the roster over the past two years, but the secondary has continued to struggle. Between injuries and young guys just not making that leap, the defense often found itself with little depth and completely unable to make stops on critical downs.
Howie Roseman and the team’s front office have worked hard this offseason to lock in almost every other position, and this was the year to rely on the NFL Draft for their cornerback additions. And, boy, did they!
With the Eagles already set on offense, they were able to get not only one, but two of the top four CB prospects in this year’s class. They first picked Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22 overall and then traded up to No. 40 to nab Cooper DeJean.

The general consensus seems to be that Howie Roseman might just be the luckiest GM in all the NFL to keep getting the guys he needs and the guys he wants.
DeJean, 21, is 6-feet and 202 pounds. Can play all around the formation — CB, safety, slot.
He can help in multiple spots and can also pair with Quinyon Mitchell as CB combo long-term.
The Eagles take pride in the 2002 draft when they took Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown in the…

Of course Howie Roseman comes away with two of the top 3 / 4 DBs in the draft.

My understanding is the #eagles believed Cooper DeJean was probably the best overall “football player” in that group of top CB. Situational awareness, tackling, spacial awareness, natural instincts on the field. Is he a true CB on the outside, most likely not. There is a plan.

I see some people saying Howie gave up too much to go get Cooper DeJean. I had a 1st round grade on him so I don’t really care about overpaying by the value of a 4th round pick. Then when CBs go the next 2 picks, you know Howie had the correct read on the situation.

The #Eagles might have legitimately just made NFL History as the first team to have two white DB’s. pic.twitter.com/PjYWFmmoSx

The #Eagles take a player many thought they would take in the first round: #Iowa DB Cooper DeJean. https://t.co/JMUgkMAVVb

Eagles getting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean really is something

The Eagles secondary was dreadful last year. Watching Drew Lock march down the field for the winning TD in the Seattle game told you how bad things were. I’m glad they are addressing the issue aggressively. The secondary needed more than a one player fix.

Cooper DeJean: 6-foot-1, 202. 21 years old. Started 24 games – 20 passes defended and 7 INTs the last two seasons.
Ran 4.44 at his Pro Day. Versatility to play CB, NCB, S. Missed final 4 games last season and combine because of right leg injury.
Physical, athletic, excellent…
