Rams take a running back in the third round. Blake Corum is the pick at 83

The Los Angeles Rams have had a defensive focused draft to being the 2024 NFL Draft. With their first pick in the third round and with the 83rd overall pick, the Rams have selected running back Blake Corum out of Michigan.

Corum was a key cog on the Wolverines offense during their national championship run in 2023. He ran for over 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons and added 27 rushing touchdowns last year. That was the most for a Power 5 running back since Derrick Henry in 2015.

On the Rams

While the Rams needed a running back, some may consider the 83rd pick and the third round to be a little high. Los Angeles selected Zach Evans last year in the sixth round and also brought back Ronnie Rivers in the offseason.

Corum will likely be in a tandem with starting running back Kyren Williams and also add some depth to that spot. Williams has missed time each of the past two years. Corum isn’t scheme specific by any means and should be able to fit in the Rams’ new gap scheme that they implemented last year.

The addition of Corum will also add some question marks to Williams’ future on the team. Williams will be going into the third year of his four year contract and adding Corum in the third round could mean that the Rams aren’t looking to extend him past next season.
